Storm Shutters
Storm Shutters provide essential protection against hurricanes and strong winds. These shutters are typically installed over windows and doors to shield them from flying debris and high-pressure winds. By adding an extra layer of defense, storm shutters help prevent structural damage to homes and buildings. They come in various types, including aluminum panels, accordion-style, and roll-down shutters, each designed to offer durability and ease of use. Proper installation and maintenance of storm shutters can significantly enhance the safety of your property during extreme weather events. Explore your options and invest in reliable storm shutters to safeguard your home.

I felt like doing some hand sewing today and still had a few of those “some assembly required” mini embroidered plushie kits, so here’s a little starry rainbow cat!
I did not do the embroidery, I’ll add the link to the etsy shop I got it from in a minute once I find it again
#sewing#handmade#plushie#sometimes you just want to spend you lunch break watching taskmaster and assembling a tiny cat#I got to lean out a window and tear a fake shutter off a wall today!#because the top of the shutter came loose from the wall#and with the storm it was kinda flopping around and could fall and hit someone#but it was too windy for ladders#I didn’t really tear it I used wire cutters on the weird plastic tie thing holding it#but it was very much enrichment for my enclosure#I got to use tools! and essentially throw a large object out a window to crash onto the concrete! (it did no damage to itself or the ground)#(we just couldn’t leave it dangling to potentially fall on someone later)

1. red and green window shutters. my god
2. reg left little pink sticky notes all around the house as reminders for what to do. oh shit. i’m sobbing still.
3. the degas
4. oh god. the sticky note that says hang painting here is either the portrait of reg and james that they talked about oh so long ago, or it’s THE ahb ship painting
5. they stole the ship painting <3 barty, evan, and james stole it <3333333
6. james was remus’ best man in his wedding oh god the tears are back
7. “He never did fall in love again” AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
chapter 38:
1. HES REUNITED WITH REGULUS!!!!!!!!
2. they find each other in every lifetime
fic is over. fuck this. i’ll never have a love like theirs. sobbing in my bed late at night over this silly little marauders fic. yet right now, it means the whole world to me. i love this fic so dearly and love it so much. it was a pleasure and a joy to read (except while sobbing.) the author is brilliant.
AND ON THAT NOTE: i would like to remind everyone of the author’s wishes to NOT BIND THEIR FIC. DO NOT SELL COPIES OF IT. respect the laws regarding fanfic and respect the author’s work. we were given this for free and we should NOT take that for granted. be kind, be respectful, and be thankful
special thanks to one of my irl friends who is definitely gonna read this. you listened to my sobbing voice memos and my crying texts. and then proceeded to make it worse by sending me fantastic ahb edits. fuck you iko <3333

The thing I think people don't get about hurricane parties is that, at the bare bones, it's about sheltering together. Like, realistically not everyone in a social group is able to evacuate, or live in a home that's storm-safe. Maybe your neighborhood floods, or has a lot of weakened large trees, or you live in a mobile/manufactured home that's just not wind safe. Maybe you have pets and can't take the, to a shelter. But if you have a friend who's better situated to shelter in place--a more solid building, or higher ground, or they're near emergency services and less likely to loose power--then it makes sense to have a few friends or a few households huddle up there together.
And if you're there, and up in each others' space, and maybe a little anxious if you're new or worried that your house will flood while you're gone... well. Might as well drink a few cocktails and eat cake about it. 🤷♀️
#San shoots the breeze#I have relatives who live on the water#And while their house is on high ground and doesn't flood#They have nearly been stranded there before#So they pack up their pets and stay with my parents a good ways inland#One of my friends regularly has people come stay with her through storms with their pets#Because her house is sturdy and they have good storm shutters#But once everyone is rounded up and everything is locked down and you're just waiting to see how it falls out..#Might as well treat it like a sleepover

boys its getting harder to ignore milton
#starting to think this bitch might actually deal US some damage#and to those confused/outraged at my indifference:#im on the opposite coast of the storm. USUALLY when a storm is cutting across a state it weakens by the time it gets to the other side#USUALLY.#like for example helene reached us as a tropical storm but severely fucked up the other coast#i try not to victimize myself when it comes to storms esp when other people get it worse#but im getting a wee bit concerned. tee hee#oh also the hurricane shutter for our piece of shittiest door isnt even working so that sucks

Do you have a particular organization you work with for providing disaster relief?
At the moment, no. My dad and several of my neighbors have been helping out with various local groups, but so far my donations have been things like clothes I had on hand that happened to be the size my neighbor's coworker, who lost their house in a flood, needed, or stuff like that The baby blankets are going to a different neighbor's kid's school, who is arranging donations for...I think it's a particular city but I am not sure how to reveal what city without giving away where I live more precisely than I really want to? I live close enough to the flooding that I don't really need to work with an organization, because everyone in my neighborhood is at max two degrees of separation from someone who lost everything in the floods. I can give things, including baby blankets, directly to the families affected. I mean, that said, I am giving them to my neighbors to distribute, but that's because I can't drive and a lot of the places donations are going you can't drive to at the moment anyway. One of my neighbors is organizing people with ATVs to go take food, water, fuel, and other necessities up to some of the communities that currently have no road access I got very, very lucky with where I live and the infrastructure that happened to be in place*. There was severe flooding less than ten minutes away from where I live in more than one direction, but where I live made it and enough of the roads are intact to be able to get out. Some routes are more circuitous than they used to be, but it's still possible
*by happened to be in place I mean in my particular neighborhood and the work my dad has had done in our yard, not the rest, I know a lot of people over a lot of years made the infrastructure of the larger area
#the person behind the yarn#ask away!#sorry nonny if this got a little more grim than my usual posting#the flooding has been incredibly bad#there's a sinkhole in my neighborhood big enough you could drive a car into it#it is luckily in a vacant lot but it's uh....not a good sign#I live close enough to a dam that it could have caused severe problems#but they drained the reservoir almost entirely before the storm hit#the organizations at least locally are mostly just picking which small city that particular organization is focusing on#and then you just...go#my dad was out for hours yesterday cleaning up debris#not where I live but near his friend's house#my house's only damage was a lost shutter#and my neighbor found it in his backyard and stored it in his garage for us until the wind died down enough to get it home#the outpouring of support even just in my neighborhood has been honestly a little overwhelming#there were so many volunteers at multiple local organizations they had to turn people away yesterday#it's going to be a very long recovery process for a very large amount of people#but people are showing up to help
